Superintendent Jason Joyce of the Riverstone Police Area Command stated that a 47-year-old man was arrested upon arrival at Blacktown Police Station around 5:30 am on Sunday. The suspect is reportedly cooperating with investigators.
Both victims, in their 30s, have not yet been formally identified. Investigators believe the victims were in a relationship, and the male suspect had a previous relationship with the female victim.
"At this stage, it would appear to be a domestic violence incident," Joyce said, highlighting the tragic nature of the crime.
The 47-year-old suspect was known to the police, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Neighbour Wayne Spalding described the woman as happy and friendly, often waving to him as he walked his dog past her home. Spalding noted that the man was quieter but would frequently sit on the balcony.
"They seemed like a normal, happy family... they never really caused any trouble other than having a party when they could," Spalding said, emphasizing the unexpected nature of the tragedy.
"It's shocking. I would never think that would happen here... it's really quiet - we're all working-class people," he added, expressing the community's disbelief.
Crime scenes were established at multiple locations: the suspect's home, Liverpool Hospital, the Quakers Hill residence, and a nearby service station where the suspected murder weapon was found.
Police are expected to charge the 47-year-old with two counts of murder, according to Superintendent Joyce.
