Anna Madeley as Mrs. Hall – She's Back!
One of the most heartwarming returns comes from Anna Madeley, who reprises her role as the nurturing matriarch of Skeldale House, Mrs. Hall, in both seasons five and six.
In a thoughtful reflection shared with PBS, Anna noted, “During lockdown, we truly recognized the kindness of people and the crucial role of community in our lives. Ultimately, our quality of life hinges on these connections, which is beautifully portrayed in the community of All Creatures Great and Small.” Her words highlight the show's essence—community spirit and support.
Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon – He’s Returning Too!
Fans will also be pleased to see Samuel West returning as the enigmatic Siegfried Farnon, described by Masterpiece as the “mercurial mentor” to the protagonist, vet James Herriot.
Samuel opened up about his journey to feeling at ease with animals during filming. He recounted a particularly memorable experience with PBS, where he learned how to check a horse's teeth from Andy Barrett, the show's veterinary advisor. "He introduced me to a horse breeder who demonstrated the proper technique—opening the horse’s mouth, moving the tongue aside to inspect its teeth, and asked me to hold onto the tongue. It required immense confidence! At that moment, I thought, 'I’m not quite ready for this yet, but perhaps by season two, I'll get there.'" His candidness gives us a glimpse into the preparation and dedication involved in portraying such roles.
